A class which incorporates yoga breathing (pranayama), postures (asanas), sequences, mindfulness and relaxation. Modifications are given allowing students to work at their own level. The emphasis is on building strength and flexibility while staying grounded and focused. If you have injuries I recommend restorative yoga. If you are starting out I suggest coming to a beginners class first.
A passive, introspective and breath orientated practice. The body is supported on bolsters and blankets and still for longer periods of time than in an active class.
The purpose of this type of practice is to shift the nervous system out of ‘fight or flight’ into a deeply felt relaxation response. I also like to include some somatic movement sequences as a way to release holding patterns before we come to rest.
